Dual Survival Season 3 – Cast Changes

Well, it seems that most of the survival/bushcraft related shows that we have had in the past few years are going off the air. Man, Woman, Wild will not be returning for another season, and as we know, Man vs. Wild is gone. Until Survivorman returns, at a yet unknown date, Dual Survival seems to be the main show left in this category.

Yes, the show will be back for a third season. However, there will be changes. It appears that Cody Lundin will be back, but Dave Canterbury will not.

Here is what Dave posted on his Facebook page:

“All- I wanted to say Congratulations to the Crew of Dual Survival in the announcment of Season 3, however with that said I will not be involved in Season 3. I have many commitments to Family and Buisness and many more months away from home and family is just not my wish at the present time. My current goals are more based on Pathfinder School Activities. I am sure Discovery has found a suitable replacement and I look forward to watching.”

Here is what Cody wrote about the new season on his Facebook page:

“Dual Survival Season Three!
The Discovery Channel has officially announced season three of Dual Survival. Filming will commence soon and I’ll share more details as I learn them. Have a Happy Easter everyone! Cody”

Who will replace Dave? There is no news about it yet. I am sure it will be someone who contrasts with Cody. After all, the original premise of the show was to put two people with drastically different styles together.

  2. Awww it won't be the same! But Cody is my favorite. Glad it will be back.

  3. Will miss Canterbury, but excited to see who will replace him. I like Myke Hawke, but would prefer a new face. John McCann would be cool. A fresh "school of thought" would be nice. Something a little different than what we are used to, but still grounded and practical.

  4. I liked both Dave and Cody. They are both very knowledgeable survivalists but lets face it, Dave is kind of a dick. Glad to hear that Cody will back.

  5. Dave isn't a dick he's practical and speaks his mind it wouldn't be as fun of show without those two arguing all the time. I would love to take Dave along on a moose hunt up here in alaska. Let's hope they find someone similar to replace him.

  6. I agree with the last poster. If you paid attention, they didn't really get along at first, but sometime in the first episode they started to trust each other's knowledge and even became friends it seems. They may have reluctantly trusted each other, but they did.

  8. I've met Dave personally and you'll never meet a more personable down to earth nice guy. He is a very generous person, a person of faith, good to kids, and ranks family high. I have also had relations with alot of the guys from Storm Chasers, and I can tell you that TV LOVES DRAMA, and it is encouraged because that is what producers feel the public wants. I think it's stupid, because we have enough of that crap on primetime TV, don't need it on educational type shows.

  9. Wikipedia says he was fired for lying about his military and civilian background. that being said, it doesnt mean I didnt like him on the show, but Cody was by far the better survivalist.

    1. I don't believe Cody was the better survivalist. They both are very good, but Dave seems to have more experience in various areas. He has a lot of educational youTube videos. Cody has a wealth of knowledge about desert survival, which has to be one of the more challenging areas.

    2. I agree with SteveFC. I've followed Dave years before he announced he may be on Discovery and he has never changed in his passion to teach and learn from others. Sometimes Cody seemed to be intimidated by Dave straight forward cander in solving problems. Cody always want to consult mother earth before he stepped on a bug. Dave was a getter dun dude. If i were go on a high adventure trip with either of them, I would pick Dave. We may starve to death if it were Cody.

  10. I like Cody, hes a bit obscure, but he gives a different perspective to the survival shows, but nobody can beat Bear Grylls, I have an uncle that was in the special forces with him, and believe me he is the real deal, man vs wild didn't show how tough he really is, the guy has so many skill sets, including hand to hand combat. discovery channel shouldn't of fired him, he was an icon, a hard worker, and simply one of the nicest people you'd ever meet. if Cody and Bear teamed up, it would probably be the most interesting survival show of them all, to bad it's not gonna happen.

    1. I have seen this mentioned as a possibility, but Mykal Hawke has been the rumored choice. He isn't one of my favorites, but it should be an interesting contrast.

I'm looking forward to see who the new member will be hope its going to be someone good I love the show

I cannot figure out if Cody is the most down-to-earth human being on the planet, or if he's totally out there, living in outer space. But without a doubt one of my favorite shows of all time. Dave and Cody did make an interesting team, and certainly entertaining television. Hate to see the pair broken up, but CANT WAIT for season three.

  13. Nothing against Cody but I'm less inclined to watch w/o Dave. No one procures meat like him... he came back with real food so many times... while Cody only ate bugs.

  14. I agree, nothing against Cody but Dave seemed to be a "man's man". Dave did take care of Cody's but on several occasions. I will miss them together, they both seemed to balance the show well. Not sure how DIscovery will pull this together with another cast member.... Cody's going to be the big boss im sure. I guess we'll see.

  15. Sorry to hear the news about Dave. Misrepresenting background or not, I think he should have been allowed to continue.

  16. Dave Canterbury is supposedly a fraud. Many of his military accolades are false. POWnetwork.org. He does have a military background, but many of his accomplishments have been embellished.

  17. I think myke hawk would be great he has a very straightforward committed knowledge base and to me most importantly he is ex military though there is no ex military speaking from experience you are always a soldier warrior the contrast between the two would be great hopefully that is the way discovery goes.

  18. I am a huge fan of the show and a woman. I enjoy them both for their unique perspectives. I wish Dave well and will miss his candor. I enjoy Cody and hope this new arrangement's as successful.

  19. Dual survival will never be the same with Dave gone but al least there is a season 3. I got my cousins into dual survival and they miss Dave as much as I do but it could be the best show on tv now a days.

  20. That stinks I really liked Dave I'm glad Codys staying atleast.

  21. I really enjoy this show, I will miss Dave's do it or die attitude. But for myself Cody's more scientific approach is somewhat more pratical for members of the general public. However the best is survivalist for me is Ray Mears you just need to look at him to know he's eating well in the wild.

  22. At least Dave and Cody had a give & take approach to surviving with a companion. Mark my words, now that Cody is the "veteran" of the show, it will be all berries, worms, and avoiding difficult climbs! At least Dave could make Cody "man up"!
