Dual Survival Season 3 – Drama!

So, I’ve been trying to keep you guys updated about news regarding the upcoming season of Dual Survival. As I have already mentioned, Dave Canterbury will not be returning, and will be replaced by another former soldier. Apparently he has not been on any show yet.

Well, last week Cody Lundin issued another statement regarding the cast change. Here is what he had to say:

“As has already been publicly confirmed, Dave Canterbury is no longer a part of Dual Survival. This fact has been true since September of 2011.

I have faced many questions regarding this change and much has been said on the internet as well. Any inquiries regarding this matter should be directed to Discovery Channel. However, since I have no doubt that the questions will continue, and I have an ethical and professional responsibility to do so, I am making the following statement.

The goal of the survival instructor is to keep people alive. To accomplish this goal, honesty, integrity, trust and competence must come first. These core values cannot be compromised or people’s lives are needlessly put at risk. In a profession where human lives are at stake, dishonesty about ones background and experience is an inexcusable breach of trust.

I have dedicated my life to this profession. It is my passion and livelihood and I have spent the past 23 years developing expertise in it. I hold the responsibility of being a survival skills instructor as sacred. It is incumbent upon all of us in this field to insist that the highest standards of honesty, integrity and honor are maintained at all times.

For all of the aforementioned reasons, I am proud to work with my new Dual Survival partner as we take the show to even greater levels. This is my final statement on the matter at this time. To my fans and to those who have offered support during this very challenging time, I offer my greatest gratitude and thanks.

Cody Lundin”

Now, if the above statement sounds overly dramatic to some of you, it is. It is a not so subtle jab at Dave. Those of you who have been around for a few years remember that a while back there was a whole lot of drama regarding the military record of Dave Canterbuty. Some people alleged that he had exaggerated his military background in his resume. Dave more or less admitted that he had done so, but had corrected it. I imagine that the above statement speaks to this issue.

I also think that there must have been some additional falling out between Cody and Dave. While misrepresenting one’s military record is an abhorrent act, it has little direct bearing on survival in the woods. There were probably some other issues between the two of them that caused this resentment. Either that, or Cody takes what he does way too seriously for a man with no shoes. :) I’m sure more details will come out over time.

Either way, I look forward to watching the new guy. I’m sure it will continue to be a fun show.

  1. I look forward to season 3. I'm sure the new guy will be just as informative and entertaining. Dave will be missed.

  2. Sounds to me like Cody was the reason Dave left. Sad because it was the yin and yang chemistry that made the show.

  3. Actually, from the episodes, you can tell that Dave sometimes has done things that could have turned out badly. I specifically recall the incident where he tries to get honey out in the middle of nowhere in the event he would get stung too badly and no [adequate] medical help would be available. Not only that, you're talking bees who could potentially could have gone after Cody AND the crew. I have no doubt that some of Dave's 'dare devil' antics if you will, must have been the cause. That's the first thing that came to mind when I read Cody's statement. It's a shame though. They had a great yin and yang chemistry as mentioned by the previous poster. C'est la vie and people can move on. [s]

  6. without Dave, this show is doomed...Cody is annoying and he irritates me to no end. I will not be watching the new season

  7. Dual Survival will most likely suck without Dave. I would be saying the same thing if it had been Cody who left. Yeah, Dave took risks, but those risks put food in Cody's stomach.

  8. I think the show would be much better if they found a former military female. That would certainly add needed diversity. Better yet, former Mosad. Is Ziva available?

    1. I agree. Being a woman who loves to watch shows like these with my entire family (all boys that is). I beleive I learn more from this and the other "survival" shows currently on tv. But I'm much more entertained & intrested in the show "Man woman wild" (the one with the husband and wife). Becuase men and women think and do things differently. I'm sure by adding a woman would make for a better show. The dynamic would be more interesting and relatable for all the women who love watching the show. Maybe when the current persons contract is up. I'm not suggesting they fire him, cause he's doing a very good job so far! It's nice to see how well he puts up with and gets along with Cody. Its got to be very hard to get along or compromise with some one who's completely the polar opposite of your self. I think he's doing so much better than his previous partner thus far. Lastly, that has to be the utmost important lesson they are teaching on this show. That if or when ur in a "Dule Survival" situation. Getting along with each other or compromising could save both your lives. Ok, thanks all for lending ur ears(eyes) to my thoughts on the subject. Excited for this season!

  9. 1. If Dave lied about his experience then Cody has a right to be upset. Who likes a liar? These are peoples lives as Cody tries to explain above.
How much of Dave's resume was a lie? Maybe not much
We are all taught to make everything sound great on a resume. Ive read Cody's books. As such it seems obvious to me Cody was teaching Dave during the show. Dave regularly adopted Cody's rhetoric.

    2. Cody is also correct in blaming Discovery for not venting Dave's background and over exagerating.

  10. The facts are sometimes you don't have the luxury of knowing who you will be stranded with and your survival depends on someone you don't like. Dave and Cody pulled off that scenario on almost every episode. I'll miss Dave greatly and hope cody's new partner is just like Dave.

    1. Very well stated.. I know this is a very late reply. But season 3 just started for me. And i had to look up what happened to Dave. I mentioned earlier this same point. I know it's not real and only intended to educate. So credentials shouldn't be an issue unless it was fibbing about knowing important survival skills. That's the name of the show. I do admit. I feel much better knowing the person teaching has been professionally trained on these skills when my son and I are watching together. When most information is found at the fingertips of my child. I'm sure my child would be more open to listen/learn from some one who's been honest of his qualifications than some one who's not been. Aka Dave. Kids nowadays can call a fake frm a mile away. They'll be less likely to listen and learn frm someone who is.. Just my opinion. Thanks for ur thoughts. Even if im late to the party;-)

  11. This show is the shit.. Not everyone can relate to Daves blood thirsty tactics and the show would be a hunting special without Susie home maker.. Dave is a legend screw paperwork or crudentials this is ride or die instincts That cannot be imitated

  12. Honestly Dave was the reason I watched the show and he will be missed. However I for one will continue to watch many of the fantastic videos that Dave has on the pathfinder school's YouTube channel. I will also still watch dual survival and I hope they can find someone to fill Dave's shoes.

  13. Historically it is the gatherers who supllied 80% of the food for most all primitive cultures. While i am not denying that dave had some valuable skills, i think much more could be learned from cody. While i will miss their dynamic chemistry, i do believe that some who has been dishonest about their credentials may possibly be unfit to co-host a how to survival show. His unnecessary risks could very well cost him and possibly his partners lives. Their is a sportsmans channel for those who watched for the kill, the show is about surviving on bare minimums and how to effectively affect self rescue or navigate to civilization.

  14. Dave rocks. Cody a big baby, get over it hippie.

  15. Yeah, Cody had always been a drama queen. Dave is the only reason I watched the show. They only needed Cody homemaker for starting fires and building shelter. I will not be watching season 3.

  16. They were both great together, but I think season three will be just as good as 1# & 2# . We will miss Dave but either one could have made the show a hit. We should give the new guy a chance, it might turn into a better show .

  17. I enjoyed Dave and his gung-ho attitude, there was the occasional unnecessary risk. I do see Cody's point. Honesty is a big deal when you are in a situation that requires immense trust. I'm looking forward to the new season. Hope the new guy is a Marine. SEMPER FI

  18. The guy that comes to mind for me as a replacement lives here in Missouri, ex-military, survivalist for years, knows Dave and Cody, likewise has a youtube channel, actually happens to look alot like Canterbury, and never been on T.V.-David Wendell of Bushcraft on Fire. I imagine there's just as many out there about as good, but that'd be my guess. There's a couple of younger guys come to mind, but I hope they aren't it.. total arrogant ________..

  19. NOBODY WAS EVER AT "RISK", It is a television show, yes they had differences, and if u want to learn what to do without shoes, than watch the hippie, and who really cares about dave, there's tons of daves out there,NONE of the things he did were real risks, they had burgers/bottled water/gps/helicopters/guns/security/and phones to get out of any real danger, everything was staged to "teach" people..if u believe everything on there, your just crazy..yes they ate some bugs/snakes/and gross water, but they had plenty of meds and real food2 take care of them..there isn't any real shows out there..not 100% not even close..and who cares if he wasn't a sniper..he never had a weapon anyways..its discoverys fault for not checking in2 his background, and im sure it was more about the conflict, there's tons of "vets" wanting to play army, but few clowns that want2 walk without shoes..do the math, they kept the clown and got ya guessing who/what's gonna happen next..ill watch desperate housewives.lol

  20. Im not saying that the show sucks without Dave. In just saying the new guy is a complete POS. he tries to hard to be what dave was naturaly. The new guy is so anoying I can't even watch anymore.

  21. I've been watching the new season, got to give the new guy a chance. The jury is still out. Anybody who gets a psychological edge from drinking their own urine is not right. Thankfully the contrasting opinions still keep it interesting. I do miss Dave though.
